Brahmastra: Ayan Mukerji clarifies the scene about Ranbir Kapoor entering the temple with his shoes
That Brahmastra The scene in question shows Ranbir Kapoor walking towards the idol along with his shoes. Readers will be aware that according to Indian culture, shoes are always removed when entering the temple as this is symbolic of the etiquette we follow when entering someone’s house. However, a Durga pandal is different from a temple. Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji explained his point of view on the matter: “As the creator (and follower) of this film, I wanted to humbly address what happened here. In our film, Ranbir does not enter a temple but a Durga Puja Pandal. My family has been organizing a similar type of Durga Puja celebration for… 75 years! One I’ve belonged to since childhood. In my experience, we only remove our shoes right on the stage where the Goddess is standing, not when you step onto the pandal.”
Ayan went on to apologize to those who were offended by the scene, adding, “It’s important to me personally to reach out to anyone who has been upset by this image…because Brahmastra is primarily created as a cinematic experience that pays respect to and celebrates Indian culture, traditions and history. That’s why I made this film, so it’s very important to me that this feeling reaches every Indian who sees Brahmastra.”
Speaking of Brahmastra, the film is the first part of the Indian mythological fantasy trilogy and will star Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. It also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy in central roles. Produced by Karan Johar under Dharma Productions, the film will be released on September 11th.
