OAK LAWN, IL – In honor of the 60th anniversary of Ringo Starr joining the Beatles and Paul McCartney’s 80th birthday this past weekend, the Oak Lawn Public Library is hosting a week-long tribute to the Fab 4. If you were a wacky 1960s teenager racking their brains in Comiskey Park, a little fellow just discovering the Beatles, or somewhere in between, don’t miss Beatles Week at the Library .
4EVER4: 60 Years of the Beatles is a 10-tower photographic exhibition that illustrates the colorful musical career of The Beatles from 1962 to 1970. The exhibition features nearly 100 photographs of John, Paul, George and Ringo and their antics at concerts and backstage. After viewing the exhibit, visitors can enter giveaways to win one of five top-rated Beatles awards. 4EVER4 is funded and sponsored by the Republic Bank of Chicago.
In addition to the photo exhibition, the library has planned a full week of Beatles experts, trivia, a free film screening and a concert by the world’s greatest Beatles tribute band of all time – American English.
60 years of The Beatles, Thursday, June 23, 7 p.m.: Visit the library for the opening night of 4EVER4 and a talk and discussion with John F. Lyons, Ph.D. Lyons, author of Joy and Fear: The Beatles, Chicago and the 1960s. Lyons examines the impact of the Beatles on the Chicago metropolitan area. This multimedia presentation shows the unique connection between the Fab 4 and the Windy City. Tea and crumpets will be served.
Meet the Beatles, Saturday, June 25, 11-11:45 am: Meet in the library’s basement meeting rooms from 11:00 – 11:45 for an entertaining multimedia story of one of the world’s most beloved bands. Children are introduced to the band while generations past remember the songs they grew up listening to.
American English, Saturday, June 25, 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Celebrate World Beatles Day live at OLPL with tribute band American English. Food trucks will be available as we sing along to two sets of the biggest hits that shaped a generation. rain or shine. This concert is funded and sponsored by the Oak Lawn Community Library Foundation.
Cook Avenue and Dumke Drive will be closed to all traffic beginning Friday night in preparation for the event. Alternate parking is available in the Oak Lawn City Hall parking lot on Raymond Avenue.
Beatles Movie Night “Yesterday” (2019), Tuesday, June 28, 7 p.m.: Gather in the basement meeting rooms for a free screening of the film Yesterday (2019). The film follows a struggling musician who realizes he is the only person alive who can remember The Beatles after waking up in an alternate reality where they never existed. The film is rated PG-13 and runs for 116 minutes.
Beatles Trivia Night, Wednesday, June 29, 7 p.m.: Do you know your facts about John, Paul, Ringo and George? Put your Beatles knowledge to the test and win prizes at the library’s Beatles Trivia Night.
