It only took a few seconds’Kesariya‘ to take social media by storm, and with the teaser audio of the track already dominating the reels, the song from Ayan Mukerji’s magnum opus Brahmāstra started on Sunday. The song was released today in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. But not only the Hindi version was popular, it also caused a lot of conversation among the audience because of its lyrics. Contrary to the popular notion that the lyrics feel like tasting elaichi in a biryani, Ayan said it was more like tasting salt amidst sweetness.
Ayan Mukerji defends ‘Love Storiyaan’ lyric in Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt’s Brahmastra song ‘Kesariya’: ‘We didn’t think it was like Elaichi’
A video of Ayan Mukerji talking about the issue was shared on Reddit. Ayan said: “We wrote it with a lot of love, we thought it was very interesting. We didn’t find it like elaichi, we thought it would be a phrase like bahut shakkar me thoda namak jab aata hai, uska ek maza, ek swaad hai (It’s not like a cardamom in biryani, it’s like salt amidst too much sugar , it has its own flavor.) Because the movie is a modern movie and the lyrics of the song are so traditional and simple, and that would have been a fun twist. I still have a feeling that eventually people will enjoy it even more.
Previously, Ayan Mukerji said: “Working with Pritam Da, Arijit, Amitabh Bhattacharya and the whole team on Kesariya was a meaningful experience. Pritam Da always manages to save the best for me since YehJawaani Hai Deewani. Personally, I am very happy with all the versions – Arijit Singh, Sid Sriram, SanjithHegde and Hesham Abdul Wahab rendered it so beautifully and soulfully, which shows in all versions.”
Ayan added, “We all love Ranbir and Alia’s sizzling chemistry on the song, which hints at the strong bond they share. Fans around the world have been celebrating Ranbir-Alia’s love with the teaser and I am very confident that the full track will exceed all expectations.”
“Kesariya” was written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, sung by Arijit Singh and composed by Pritam. Filmed in the Varanasi ghats, the track was one of the most anticipated songs of the year. The film opens on September 9, 2022.
