Neris and Pressly each pitch an inning. Rookie JJ Matijevic scored in seventh place ahead of Gerrit Cole. Jose Altuve scored in game eight against Michael King.
Road test at Lightning stands between Avalanche, Stanley Cup
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche face their biggest task yet in the Stanley Cup Finals, defeating back-to-back champions Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 6 away. The Avalanche missed their first chance to lift the trophy when they lost Game 5 at home on Friday night. They now hope to win it in the same building where the Lightning stood just under a year ago. Colorado has a recent history to draw on in this situation, having lost Game 5 and won Game 6 against St. Louis in the second round. But Tampa Bay is another level of difficulty based on the experience so deep in the playoffs.

Serena Williams puts on “Out of Office” for Wimbledon return
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) – Serena Williams has put her non-tennis interests on hold for a while while she returns to her job as a tennis player at Wimbledon. She said on Saturday she had to add the “Out of Office” message to her email account so anyone who tried to reach her would know why no response was forthcoming. Williams has been out of the sport for a year and has not played since her injury in the first round of the All England Club in 2021. She wouldn’t say if this will be her last appearance at Wimbledon, where she has won seven of her 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
US swimmer Ress endures elation, shock, relief at worlds
BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — U.S. swimmer Justin Ress has gone through all the emotions after winning his first individual gold medal on the final day of racing at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. Almost as soon as he won the men’s 50 backstroke final, he had his medal stripped away. Rees was disqualified for allegedly ducking at the finish. Later, after all other races were finished, the swimming federation FINA announced that the disqualification was overturned. Ress says, “I think that’s probably the worst path a race can have.”

Palat is money for Lightning, could cash in as a free agent
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — If this is Ondrej Palat’s final playoff run with the Tampa Bay Lightning, he’s certainly making it count. The rising free agent scored his third game-winning goal of those playoffs to keep the defending champions alive in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Colorado Avalanche. Since the start of the postseason in 2020, nobody has had more game winners than Palat. The Czech winger’s talent for scoring big goals and everything else he does defensively and off the puck should help him make money when free agency begins on July 13. But for now, the in-house Lightning product wants to win another title.
What you should know before Wimbledon: Djokovic will not be vaccinated
WIMBLEDON, England (AP) – Novak Djokovic says ahead of Wimbledon’s start that he will not get a COVID-19 vaccine to play at the US Open later this year. He knows Wimbledon could very well be his last Grand Slam tournament in 2022. It’s only his second this year because he was banned from playing at the Australian Open in January after deciding not to get his shots. The 35-year-old from Serbia says his lack of a chance to play in the United States because it bars unvaccinated foreigners from entering the country gives him extra motivation as he seeks a seventh All England Club title.
