Anees Bazmee is the star of the moment. The director behind the horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is delighted with the film’s smash hit. It has become a blockbuster grossing over Rs. 175 crores domestically and is in no mood to slow down even as it has entered its fifth week.
Not only that, but Anees Bazmee’s 2006 film, Naam, starring Ajay Devgn, will finally see the light of day this year. In an exclusive interview with us, Aneez Bazmee spoke about whether a film suffers when its release is delayed by more than a decade and a half. He also spoke about his plans to do a sequel to Deewangee starring Ajay Devgn and the update on the sequel to No Entry (tentatively inclined to No Entry Me Entry).
Speaking about the delayed release of Naam, Anees Bazmee said that despite everything, the emotion, the relationship and the essence of it all remains the same. He quipped, “Some stories are such that they remain relevant even after 25 years. It’s the same 25 years ago, it’s the same now and it will remain the same. So we need to understand if the movie is like that. “It’s my life” was about the relationship between father and son. The style of presenting that relationship can change, the tone can change, but the relationship remains. Likewise, there is an action film where the hero is out to get revenge. There are movies about revenge now, and there will be movies about the same thing in 10 or 25 years. Yes, the approach, the styling will change. So when a film is released after a long time, there are some differences.”
He added: “We started filming Naam in 2006. We are now in 2022 and I can only hope that people would enjoy it. I’m glad if the producers don’t suffer any losses. All my wishes are with the producers and I just hope people will enjoy the film.”
Naam stars Ajay Devgn and another cult film that Ajay and Aneez Bazmee have collaborated on is Deewangee. By the way, there were reports that there could be either a sequel or a remake of the film. Bazmee revealed: “Ajay is a friend. When we meet, we talk a lot. It’s not even like we meet all the time, but every time we meet it feels like yesterday was the last time we met. This is the equation, the relationship, the love I share with him. When I met him some time ago he said: “Anees bhai what a movie we made – Deewangee”. All of us involved in the film are very proud that we made a successful film. Ajay, and even I want a part 2 of the movie to be done. Imagine if a person could be that smart then, now after 20 years what level he would be at. If I can think at that level, if I can spin a story around it, then we’re definitely going to do Deewangee 2.”
Bazmee also shared an update on No Entry Sequel, adding that the film will be hitting the stage soon. “We will begin the sequel to No Entry very soon. I met Salman Bhai (Salman Khan) 2-3 times and he said ‘Let’s start this film’. I had told him the story before and I still do, and he liked it very much. It’s a good social film and I’m sure it will be released soon,” the director revealed.
Speaking about his upcoming films, Anees Bazmee said that he is a person who likes to run while others run and run around. He shared, “I’m also working on the script for 1-2 films, but I don’t generally plan too much ahead. I feel and pray it gets a proper release. Then I think about what to do next. I feel like people are running around too much and I’m just walking. I’ve been walking like this for 40 years and I want to continue to do so.”
He concluded: “I don’t believe in running to do 3-4 films. I feel like 24 hours in a day is less for me when I’m making one film, so I salute those who can make 2-3 films. But 1 film is enough for me and I want to continue at the same pace.”
