Netflix has shared the first teaser for new movie Blonde about Marilyn Monroe, with fans stunned by the uncanny resemblance between their leading lady and the Hollywood icon.
Cuban actress Ana de Armas plays the famous actress Norma Jeane Mortenson who rose to fame in the 1940s and later became one of the most famous actresses of all time.
The trailer features Ana, 34, in a number of iconic scenes from Marilyn’s career, including the pink dress she wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, where she sang the song Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend, and also exploding the iconic white dress, when she stood over a manhole for her film The Seven Year Itch.
The movie star is also mobbed by fans and the press, while police help the distraught celebrity through a crowd while Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend is sung over the clip in a slow, moody voice.

In another scene in the trailer, the star smiles in the mirror and then bursts out laughing, suggesting erratically changing moods the star is said to have suffered from during her lifetime.
Fans were amazed at the uncanny resemblance between Ana and Marilyn, with one writing on Twitter: “Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe is truly an amazing casting, wow.”
Another posted a photo of the two side by side and wrote, “Okay but… Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe.”
Another added, “Ana de Armas is spot on as Monroe,” while a fourth person simply said, “Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe. Impressive!”
The film is based on a 2000 book by Joyce Carol Oates and will be directed by Andrew Dominik.

Blonde is slated for release on Netflix in September and will be the streaming service’s first original film to receive an NC-17 rating, meaning it is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.
Marilyn Monroe actress Ana shared the trailer on Instagram with the caption: “BLONDE. What a beautiful dream!
“Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start – to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens. He wanted the world to know what it actually feels like to be not only Marilyn but also Norma Jeane. I felt this was the most daring, uncompromising, and feminist approach to her story I had ever seen.”

The official Netflix synopsis of Blonde reads: “[The film] boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood’s most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe. From her unpredictable childhood as Norma Jeane to her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the ever-widening chasm between her public and private self.”
Andrew Dominik said in May the film had “something about it that offends everyone”.
“On the one hand, I think if I had a choice, I’d rather go and watch the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story,” he told Vulture.
“Because we know her life was on the brink, of course how it ended. Do you want to see the warts-and-all version or do you want to see the cleaned version?”
Blond was a year-long project for the director, with filming scheduled to begin in January 2011.

He added that it’s an “interesting time” for the release of Blonde.
“If it had come out a few years ago, it would have come out right around the time Me Too came out and it would have been a printout of all that stuff. I think we’re in a time now where people are really unsure where any lines are,” he said.
“It’s a film that definitely has a moral. But it’s swimming in very ambiguous waters because I don’t think it’s going to be as trite as people want to see it. There’s something about it that offends everyone,” he added.
