British actor Anthony Hopkins went all in on the NFT move.
Better late than never, Hopkins said in a statement yesterday announcing their new partnership Orange cometInc, an NFT and Web3 focused agency co-founded by veteran Hollywood producer Dave Broome, NFL Hall of Famer Kurt Warner and Grammy Award-winning music icons Gloria and Emilio Estefan.
The project entitled The Eternal Collection, will be released on OpenSea later this year, making it the latest in a series of seemingly endless celebrity drops. NFT holders will have the opportunity to meet Hopkins at an in-person event that could be part of a broader utility turnaround in the NFT space after it has been rocked by celebrity pump-and-dump after celebrity pump-and-dump in recent months. YouTuber Coffeezilla Video It’s worth noting the dramatic drop in celebrity NFT prices just released yesterday (spoiler alert: most are down 90 percent).
Hopkins’ works feature digital animations of the actor in futuristic scenarios that appear to be based on some of his most well-known film portrayals. In one, the silence of the Lambs Star shows his penchant for the dark and sinister by donning an iron face mask clad in machines, a throwback to his role as Hannibal Lecter.
The two-time Academy Award winner said in a statement he hopes the NFTs will bring the energy he portrayed in the film to the digital realm. “As an artist, I am inspired by the power of art, music, cinema and the illusionary, dreamlike quality of life,” he said. “The Metaverse offers an incredible opportunity to connect with an audience in a very different way.”
Hopkins is not new to the art world, that should be noted. In 2005 he launched his painting career with a solo show at Harte International Galleries, and a 2009 self-portrait of the artist was purchased by the Burt Britton Collection at a Bloomsbury auction in New York in 2009.
In 2020, a painting he was working on was featured behind him in a hilarious TikTok video of Hopkins dancing to a song by Canadian rapper Drake in his studio.
He added in the statement that he hopes this will be an opportunity for people to take their own art production more seriously: “Taking my art to the next level using NFT as a canvas is truly an exciting endeavor. I’m probably the oldest guy in the NFT community and I’m proving on social media that anything is possible at any age.”
